Bird Flu in MY BACKYARD!

This duck is likely infected with H5N1. Most wild birds are unaffected by the virus, hence they act as carriers to domestic birds, who are in turn devastated by the disease. H5N1 Z+ has a 90-100% mortality rate in domestic birds.

I found this photo and accompanying article as I reviewed my RSS feeds for my research on how a pandemic flu could threaten globalization. Oh my! That's my backyard!

The Jardin Botanique, just up from the Parc Barton, emptied its ponds to discourage waterfowl from its environs.

And they put up very pleasant signs explaining why.
